Plugins for System Management

The following list of plugins and descriptions are those that have been installed on the ODU WordPress system for administrative purposes or system admin.

Tab – When editing your sites the left side of the screen contains a menu that allows you to navigate different aspects of your site. Each menu item (i.e. Posts, Pages, Settings, Tools, Dashboard, etc.) is a tab.

Section – Each tab is made out of sub menu items, we will call these sections.

Short-code – Some plugins will supply you a segment of code surrounded by [ ]. These are called short-codes, you place them in the visual editor of a text or page to utilize a feature, outside object, or special formatting.

Description: This plugin creates a simple and customizable list of all the site on your network

How to use: This plugin will create a page called “Sites” on your main site where anyone can search to locate a site. On the off chance the page isn’t auto created all you need to do is create a page with the slug “blogs” without the quotes.

Description: This plugin indexes comments into a global table.

How to use: This plugin by itself does not provide any features to your users. It’s simply a backend plugin that can be used to build other features.

Description: This plugin allows you to easy search across all blogs on ODU WordPress

How to use: A search page should be automatically created. Simply visit the site page.

Description: This plugin allows you to simply display a global tag cloud for your entire WordPress Multisite network.

How to use: Go to Network > Settings > Settings. Scroll down the pages to the Sites Tags region. Select number of tags and listings that you would like to display per page. Scroll to the Bottom and Click Save Changes.

Description: This plugin allows you to copy content from one site to another (on the same network)

How to use: Go to the Content Copier tab. Follow the instructions to pick what you will copy to where and finish. You can create site groups to copy to several sites at one time.

Description: This plugin allows you to take control of the theme admin page for your multisite network. Categorize your themes into groups, modify the name, description, and screenshot used for themes.

How to use: Once installed and network-activate, you’ll find a new menu item in you network admin under Settings > Multisite Theme Manager. From there you will be able to configure your settings. Now that you’ve saved your network settings, let’s head on over to Themes > Installed Themes in your network admin. That’s where you’ll configure the details for each theme you make available to your users.

Description: This plugin shows the usage of each theme on ODU WordPress.

How to use: Go to the network you would like to check the statistics of. Go to the Theme Statistics section of the Themes tab. Note you may need to log into the desired network manually.

Description: This plugin allows the site admin to create new blogs based on templates, to speed up the blog creation process.

How to use: Once installed go to Plugins in the network admin dashboard and Network Activate the New Blog Template plugin. You’ll see a new menu in your network admin: Blog templates. Go to Blog Templates > Settings in your network admin dashboard. Select your template and customize your categories toolbar. Go to Blog Templates > Blog Templates in your network admin. Create a blog template of your choice by simply filling out the form

Description: This plugin Indexes all posts across your network and brings them into one spot.

How to use: Visit Plugins in your Network Admin dashboard and Network Activate the Post Indexer plugin there. Access the post indexer by clicking Settings > Post Indexer. From here you have the choice to:

Disable/Enable indexing
Edit the settings
Rebuild the index for that site only
See statistics for that site only
Just click on the option you’d like for that individual site/blog. Finally, in the Global Settings tab, you can choose which post types you’d like to index (Posts, pages, etc.), as well as how long you would like the index to go back.

Description: This plugins allows you to have different levels of subscriptions.

** this plugin is only available to system administrators

How to use: Go to the Pro Sites tab in the Network Admin Dashboard. You may create the different levels of subscriptions in the levels section. The Premium Plugins and Premium Themes control what features and plugins free users cannot use. You can also create coupons for people to apply towards upgrading their membership. The settings tab is for general options for formatting the site appearance and module names. Lastly you can use the modules section to add features to your control for levels of membership.

Description: This plugin will generate reports that help you monitor post, page and comment activity for a user or a single site across an entire network.

How to use: Go to Network Admin > Settings > Reports. Click on View Report next to the report you want to run.

Description: This plugin adds a way to track user posts and comments across an entire Multisite network.

How to use: Once you have installed and Network Activated the Plugin you will see a new menu option titled ‘Reports‘ appear under the Users menu on your  Network Admin Dashboard and each of your Site Dashboards.

Description: This plugin allows you to quickly swap between user accounts in WordPress at the click of a button.

How to use: Visit the Users menu in WordPress and you’ll see a Switch To link in the list of action links for each user. Click this and you will immediately switch into that user account. You can switch back to your originating account via the Switch back link on each dashboard screen or in your profile menu in the WordPress toolbar.

Description: This plugin logs all failed login attempts into syslog to be integrated with fail2ban.

How to use: Copy wordpress.conf to your fail2ban/filters.d directory. Edit jail.local to be something like [wordpress] enabled = true port = http,https filter = wordpress logpath = /var/log/auth.log. Reload/restart fail2ban.

How to use: Download and install using the built in WordPress plugin installer. Activate in the “Plugins” network admin panel using the “Network Activate” link. Comment out the DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE line in your wp-config.php file. If you don’t have this line, you probably need to enable multisite.

How to use: Go to the WPMU DEV Videos section of the Settings tab. Register the domain (if needed). Place the video shortcodes into posts and pages as needed.
